Podcast 4 - Interview with Dr Terry Trammell - Part II

January 16, 2014
Posted by Matthew Mac Partlin on Saturday, October 5, 2013

Yes, I know, it's been a while. I've been off chasing rally cars in Coff's Coast at the WRC Rally Australia and been part of the Bedside Critical Care Conference so time seems to have slid past. However, it's time to get part two of the Terry Trammell interview up, so here it is.

In this half, Terry and I talk about the position of the driver's body in an open-wheel, open-cockpit race car and how it predisposes to vertebral injury. We also discuss information sharing and collaboration between motorsport rescuers, race engineers and the regulatory bodies that oversee the running of the sport.

Towards the end of the interview, Terry agrees to be put on the spot and talk through his responses as the doctor in the chase medical car on the opening lap of a circuit race when two cars collide and leave the track.

I hope you enjoy it. Links to resources are below.

I emailed Dr Terry Trammell after reading an article that he co-authored with Kathy Flint and asked if he would be prepared to sit down to record a podcast interview. And being a gentleman, he agreed. I can't share a link to the article with you, a...

I've just spent the weekend working with the Motorsport Safety and Rescue (MSR) team providing medical cover for the FIA International Rally of Queensland. During the weekend I had the opportunity to sit down with Tony Harris, an intensive care paramedic with wilderness rescue training from Tasmania who has taken on the role of Motorsport Co-ordinator for MSR.

I've been used to simply turning up, doing the job and going home at the end ...

Exercise associated hyponatraemia with Luke Bennett

So I've decided to have a go at this podcasting business. Everyone is doing it and I've learned a bit about it from work that I've done with the Intensive Care Network and from friends who run sites like Life In The Fast Lane, EM Crit, the P.H.A.R.M., BroomeDocs and the Ultrasound Podcast. How hard can it be?

Well, as you might be about to see, it's actually kind of tricky; especially the first time around.

I got talking to Luke Bennett re...
